Flora is an easy knit, but for the life of me, I can not figure out the Twisted Loop stitch. I finally googled it and was directed to the creator's blog - Simply Crafted. She kindly posted pictures of each step. Haven't tried it yet, but the steps pictured look easy. We will see.

Knitting is progressing somewhat slowly, but when you have 3 WIPs, nothing gets finished quickly. Once Flora is done (maybe this weekend), all that is left is the Klaralund (half way done the back) and then the scarf for J's teacher. The scarves are Christmas presents, so I do have a fair amount of time to finish, but I would like them done now, so I am not rushed in December. Planning ahead, my friends is the key.

Chris is home on Sunday and the girls and I can't wait to see him. I guess the saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is quite true.

Have a great weekend folks.

I just bought this pattern from Knit and Tonic. What a great sweater.

I have some GGH Bali in orange at home that will suit this pattern.

Yipee, another item to add to the list. Like I don't have a list as long as my arm now, I've got to keep adding to it.

I'm approaching the finishing line for Flora. This scarf uses about 100 yards or so of yarn and it is quick and easy to knit.

What a great gift idea. Think about adding it to your gift list - the recipient will be quite pleased, I'm sure.

Have a good one folks.

Hockey update - J played her first game on Sunday morning and scored a goal! Wow! I am so happy for her. And was she ever proud of herself. On to knitting...

Knitting is such a great hobby to be fickle. I am so organized in all areas of my life, but when it comes to knitting, I don't have to stick to a plan. Unless I feel like it of course. I can knit what ever I feel like. I can make a list of things I want to knit next and knit them in any order I want. Or scrap the list and make another one. My goal is always the same, just the route to accomplish that goal changes.

I started Flora from knitty for M's teacher and a fleece artist scarf in a red blend for J's teacher. These will be Christmas gifts. Easy to knit, nice to give.

My secret project is the Klaralund in Bernat Denim for a family member. This family member sometimes reads my blog, so I'm not saying who I'm knitting it for. Not much progress, only one of four pieces is done. I promptly cast on for the 2nd square so when I felt like knitting, I could just go ahead and grab it. Pretty mindless knitting, which as we all know is great.

That is where I stand. Have a good one.

I am busy as a bee this week. Work is really crazy now with no end in site. Due to this fact, I might not be able to post every day. We will see.

I really haven't been knitting as the drop spinning I've been doing has taken up all my spare time. It is quite addictive. I have spun three little skeins so far. When Chris comes home I will take pictures of them.

I will take pictures of Chris' socks I just finished and the felted purse with bamboo handles. Oh yeah, I started a secret Christmas present for a family member. One of four pieces is completed. Well, I guess I have been knitting.

Saturday was an interesting day. I went to Gemini Fibres for a Beginners Spinning Class. They lent me a wheel for the class. It was fun. I need to get my antique wheel working or get a new one and practice, practice, practice! Man, it is not as easy as it looks. But I am sure I will get the hang of it, one day.

I did buy a bag of orange and a bag of raspberry colour roving, and a braid thing of variegated roving made by fleece artist. I am hoping if I drop spin the orange and raspberry nicely, I can ply them together. The colours would look so rich together.

Well that is the update. Have a good one.

It is 10am on Wednesday morning and I am having a pretty shitty day so far. Here is a re-cap:

  • My husband is gone for 2 weeks
  • The kids and I have to wake up 45 minutes earlier for the next two weeks
  • I have to drop the kids at school for the next 2 weeks
  • It took 15 freaking minutes to get the back bench into the van (usually a 1 minute job)
  • All my trains were cancelled and I had to drive to work, in severe rush hour traffic
  • Went to get a coffee, but noticed my wallet was missing. I found it later in the car

Just wanted to complain. Ahh, that feels better.

BTW - for all of you who might be wondering, I don't resent my husband's absence. He had to travel to France to visit his sister who is quite ill.

Hope your day is better than mine.

Hockey Family

We are officially a hockey family, and I hold the wonderful title as Hockey Mom. I love this title. I love watching my 6 year old daughter skate. I love watching my youngest and husband skate. I on the other hand am not the biggest fan of skating, but participate to be included in the family team. I must say, my skating skill has improved immensely over the last 3 years, but it is due to the fact in the winter months we practically live and breathe skating. We usually go to the community rink twice on the weekends and about 4-5 times a week on our backyard rink. We are constantly skating.

For the last 3 years my husband has built a rink for us and every year it gets bigger and bigger. He has already started to frame the rink (must do it before it gets too cold) and dug out 15' of lawn to level the rink, hence make it bigger.

My girls love it. Both of them started skating at 2 years of age, and have grown to love it more than most other activities. It is one of the few activities I suggest doing and they are in the car faster than light.

As a mom, I believe we have certain bragging rights with regards to our children's talents. I am going to take advantage of that right and brag about Julianna. She is an awesome skater on both hockey and figure skates. I must say, it is weird to see her wearing figure skates, especially when you see her in her hockey gear. I believe she was born to play this sport. Here is the proof:

End of bragging! No knitting to report as I'm unsuccessfully spinning Fleece Artist roving with a drop spindle. More on that later.

Do you think it would be blasphemy to knit Mavis or Klaralund in Bernat's Denim yarn?

This Show was okay. I would have thought it better if I didn't pay the $15.00 admission fee. Now I know what the show is all about and I'm likely not to go again.

What did I buy? Nothing that exciting - some Regia sock yarn at half price and three little jars of glass beads. That's it.

For lack of knitting content, thought I'd share some statistics with you. I did a count of the projects I've completed over the last three years. Man, my productive has increased significantly. In 2003 I finished 9 projects, in 2004 I finished 24, and so far in 2005 I have finished 30. And the year is not over yet. I've got 2 and half more months to knit my ass off. I'm aiming for a total of 35 knits by year end. Hope I can make it.

Have a good one folks.

Not much knitting to report. I did finish the purse and a purple/orange fluffy scarf. I'll put pictures up once the bag is seamed. I knit the scarf as it reduced my stash by 3.5 balls. That means 12.5 balls were knit up in the last week. My goal of owning 200 balls is getting closer. (I know 200 balls sounds like a lot, but it doesn't look like I have that much. If you haven't counted your stash - count it and you will be totally amazed of your total).

BTW - I;m going here this afternoon. Lets pray there is nothing interesting to buy.

The next projects won't reduce the total by that much, but at least I'll have a mini poncho and ribby shell to wear. I guess before I start these projects I should finish Chris' socks. The first one is done, and only a bit of the ribbing on the 2nd. Got to finish that sock.

I'm not sure why I'm making him wool socks. He really doesn't like them. He will only wear them in -20 degree weather while shovelling the drive way. Which I hope is not arriving anytime in the near future. But at least they will be done in plenty of time.
Have a good one folks.

A little late, but THANKS so much for all your wonderful comments on the Ribby and the Vest. I love them. I pratically live in the ribby, which I didnt think I would - oh what a nice surprise. On to knitting.

I want to knit, but I don't want anything which requires too much thought, so what do I do? I started two purses. Yeah, okay, like a need another purse. I am one of the bigger bag whores out there. I have a bag for every occasion, I have big ones, smalls ones and one in every colour. I keep buying them. And now have decided to make them. When will the insanity stop? So, here is the felted bag, knit with 100% wool bought from Goodwill:

I hate this bag. Holy crap it is horrible. It looks okay sitting there, but it is useless. The bag gapes open, bunches up at the bottom and the straps stretch so long I feel as though they might break. Before I put it in the loser pile, I'm going slap on some bamboo handles and hope that it is only the knitted straps that make this bag suck so much.

The second bag is the Knit Bag from Hollywood Knits book. I am using Patons Bella, and I only need to block and seam the sucker. The stockinette is curling like you wouldn't believe. So off to the board it does. Lets hope this one turns out better than the crap pictured above.

BTW - I have 223 balls left, which means only 23 balls left to knit before I can buy any new yarn. WHOOPEE!

Have a good one folks.

Why no post on Friday? Work! Man, work really gets in the way of life, now doesn't it? I'm sure you feel my pain. That is the bad news, and the good news is, I finished the vest:

Pattern: Vogue Knitting Fall/05
Yarn: Patons Classic Merino
Needles: 4.0mm

I love this vest. Thankfully I can wear it soon as the weather in Toronto is getting colder.

Have a good Thanksgiving Weekend.

Better shot of the finished Ribby Cardi:

I used Peruvian Highland Wool in eggplant and ice. Love the colour combo and enjoy wearing it.

I decided to go with my original plan to knit smaller projects due to the fact I don't feel like knitting any sweaters at the moment. That was really the deciding factor.

After finishing the vest (btw - seaming has started), I really don't feel like knitting anything that requires alot of thought. I like mindless knitting sometimes, dont you?

Have a good one folks.

With my new found desire to decrease the amount of yarn I have, it appears I will only reduce the amount by 10.5 balls if I finish the below:

  • Socks for Chris - in progress (3.5)
  • Shelridge Poncho kit (2)
  • Ribby shell using yarn bought MW&S Festival (Brooks Farm) (1)
  • Orange/pink mitts - to match the pink/orange Fleece artist scarf recently finished (4)
I do have a dilemma, now don't I. I can stay on track with this list, or choose another project that will reduce the amount more drastically. Hm, decisions, decisions, decisions.

Stay tuned.

Wow - my hit count went threw the roof this past weekend due to the fact I'm back in the Knitting Bloggers Ring again. I was out for awhile, but now I am back in again.

So with all these new hits, I thought there would be more comments, but alas that is not the case. Maybe you'll leave a comment and maybe you won't. But if you do, I'll be alerted to you - I'm always on the look out for new blogs. I think one of the reasons we blog, is we LIKE comments. What would be the point if no one said anything? It would be pretty boring, that is for sure.

Knitting content? Why sure, I've done a whole lot. NOT.I did finish the knitting on the felted bag. I couldn't felt it, as my mom hogged the washer yesterday to do my family's laundry. I guess I can't complain - she did wash, dry and fold all of it. So the bag will have to wait.

Yesterday in the car, I started a pair for socks for Chris yesterday with stash yarn. My goal is to have my current amount of 235.5 balls to under 200 by the end of the year. Do you think that is doable? If my hands continue to hurt, maybe not, but I am going to give it my best effort despite that fact.

Have a good day folks.
